The CEDIC has opened its doors the first time in 2009, and therefore it was the first multi-national astronomical
imaging conference in Europe. The conferenc was opened with a public event in the Deep Space of the Ars Electronica
Center in Linz/Austria, showing pictures made with the Hubble Space Telescope and the best pictures of the conference
speakers. Because of the enormous interest in this opening event, the multimedia presentation had to be shown twice.

The conference sessions, which started on Saturday, were of of high quality. The talks covered nearly a wide range of topics regadring deepsky astrophotography. Beside a very interesting introduction session about the human eye and human vision, there were sessions about colour calibration, about methods of color preservation with LRGB images, about FITS import to Photoshop, about new features of Photoshop CS4, remote operation of observatories and, last but not least, a comparison of amateur astrophotography versus professional images taken at famous observatories.

Between the sessions, there was plenty of time for small talk and expert discussions - after all, communication across local borders was one of the focuses of the CEDIC. During the conference, it was also possible to visit the boots of the CEDIC partners, where one could find a lot of fine astro equipment. We are sure that some of the visitors did not only return home with a lot of new knowledge and know how, but also with fancy new astro-gear.

More then 100 people from 15 nations participated in the first CEDIC in Linz/Austria. Some of them even from overseas. So we think that it was a really successful event.
We are already looking forward to the next CEDIC in 2011 and we hope to see many of you again. And, of course, we would be glad to welcome many new visitors!

International Year of Astronomy 2009
The CEDIC '09 was our personal contribution to the International Year of Astronomy 2009.
And certainly it was not an accident that the target date of the CEDIC encountered with the "100 Hours of Astronomy".
Far from it! We also want to support this project oft the IYA with our conference.
Clear Skies for all of you, yours Christoph Kaltseis, Herbert Raab and Wolfgang Leitner
